
Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Provicne now, called “Sui” for short, and also known as “Sheep City” and “Flower City”. It is the biggest city in South China and the biggest port for foreign trade in the south of China, located in the central part of Guangdong Province.
As one of the first ports for export and import trade in China, Guangzhou’s strong commercial influence on the country is embodied by the rapid development of its manufacturing industry. As a pioneer of reform and opening up, Guangzhou has been known throughout the country for its vigorous free trade and has always been China's most market-oriented first-tier city with the lowest cost of doing business. To date, almost sixty percent of the world’s top 500 companies have invested in Guangzhou, and some 120 have set up their headquarters or regional headquarters in there.
As the most important center of international trade in South China, the Canton Fair or China Import and Export Fair, is a trade fair held in the spring and autumn seasons each year since the spring of 1957 in Canton (Guangzhou), Guangdong, China.It is the oldest, largest, and the most representative trade fair in China. Generally speaking, the two sessions are respectively from Apr. 15 to May. 05 and Oct. 15 to Nov.4. Detailed exhibitions include electronics & household electrical appliances, building materials & hardware, machinery equipments, food & drink, household items, fabrics and home textiles.
Guangzhou is one of the most economically developed regions in China, boasting abundant tourism resources and a solid foundation of tourist sources. In recent years, the Guangzhou Municipal Government has launched an ecological-oriented urban construction program and carried out a series of selected tour routes on themes of mountains, water, urban landscape, flowers, and lakes. The main tourist attractions and scenic spots are as follows: Baiyun Mountain, Conghua Hot-spring Tourist Resort, Huacheng Square, Guangdong Provincial Museum, Canton Tower, Haixinsha Island (location of the opening ceremony of the 16th Asian Games), Yuntai Gadern, Nansha Wetland Park, and Chimelong Tourist Resort.
The city has a massive number of malls and retail stores. Grand shopping malls such as the Tee Mall Plaza, the China Plaza plus the trade fairs in the Guangzhou International Building provide easy access to top-notch products from all over the world. Visitors can also enjoy shopping on the Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street and Beijing Road. Guangzhou has more restaurants and teahouses than any other city in China.
